Our first “Free Dress Fundraiser Day” has been a huge success!  Final count shows that the school earned $552.28 today in donations thanks to students, parents, and anonymous donors.

A great thank you to everyone who participated! Special thanks to Karla Kay Snow and Trent Schoonmaker, chairs of the school-level fundraising committee for your relentless work in putting this together.

The next Free Dress Fundraiser Day will be January 14th, the second Friday of the month!

Week of May 24^th – 28^th

Monday: Twin Day – Come dressed like one or more of your friends.
Tuesday: Decades Day – Choose from the 20’s, 50’s, 60’s, 70’s or 80’s
Wednesday: Pirates of the Caribbean Field Day– You may wear athletic clothing with pirate accessories.
Thursday: Music Dance Festival– Each grade level will be asked by the music teachers to wear something specific for their performance. Ask your students teacher for more information.
Friday: Hawaiian Day - No swimwear, flip flops, or sandals!

Please remember that all clothing and costumes must uphold Freedom Academy’s policies of neatness and modesty.

Please wear school shoes all week!!!

Tuesday, May 25th

Freedom Academy participated in the Gold Medal Schools program this year on the Gold Level (we’ve achieved the Bronze and Silver levels in the past). “Gold Medal Schools makes it possible for elementary schools to provide physical activity and healthy nutrition choices at a time when budget cuts and testing requirements overshadow physical activity and nutrition. Gold Medal Schools improves students’ academic success through policies and environmental changes that support good nutrition, physical activity, and staying tobacco-free.” (http://health.utah.gov/hearthighway/gms/)

Our goal this year was, “Around the world in 180 days!” The school nutritionists took feedback from the teachers about the places they’d learn about in their curriculum this year. They then mapped a course around the world that had the kids visiting certain cities and countries, such as Mexico, Mt. Rushmore, the Great Lakes, Washington D.C., New York, London, Rome, Greece, Egypt, India, China, and Tokyo , Japan.  The students kept track of the miles they walked or ran throughout the year and watched their progress to all those places and back again, more than 22,000 miles! Come see the map in the lunchroom to get a feel for this accomplishment!

The school will receive $500 for completing the goal.  The lunchroom also rewarded the students with a week of international foods of their choice.  If you or your students haven’t tried one of these popular and delectable meals yet, you have 2 more days!
